Turkmenistan

This is a light red wine produced at a winery about 50km west of Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan. Wine production in Turkmenistan dates back at least 3000 years. Today, most wine production in Turkmenistan is in a strip extending about 100km east and west of Ashgabat, north of the mountains which separate Ashgabat from Iran. Turkmans seem to prefer desert wines – the great majority of wine production in Turkmenistan is of high alcohol (16-18%) sweet wines.
