Note: Participants must have previously passed the PRINCE2™ Foundation certification. This one hour exam is taken at the end of the PRINCE2™ Project Management Methodology 3-Day course

These seminars are provided by Project Performance (Australia) Pty Ltd and presented by Rational Management Pty Ltd. Rational Management Pty Ltd is an ATO (a training organization accredited for delivery of PRINCE2™ training worldwide by the UK Government-appointed APM Group), and endorsed by PRINCE Australia (the PRINCE2™ regulatory body in Australia, on behalf of the APM Group).

Who Should Attend This Course?

The Seminar will be particularly beneficial to those who are considering using PRINCE2™ for their projects. This seminar will also benefit both project external stakeholders and members of project teams destined to work within the PRINCE2™ methodology. Finally, the seminar may assist those intending to sit the PRINCE2™ practitioner examination (which normally runs on the following day in association with an examination-focussed revision session).

Example job titles that may benefit from attendance at this seminar include CEO, Program Director, Project Director, Project Manager, Task Leader, Team Leader, Senior Manager, Engineering Manager, R&D Manager, Research Leader, and any job title that reflects participation in or interface with a project.

Attendance at this one-day seminar may benefit any other person who is responsible for or interested in the management of programs, projects or project activities.

Format and Presentation

This course is a paper based preparation course. It includes sample exam questions that can be submitted via email for feedback/marking as part of the preparation. Exam sessions are conducted by Rational Management in Melbourne and Sydney.

The PRINCE2™ Practitioner Examination, based on three scenarios / questions, is then conducted in the afternoon, as a 3-hour open book invigilated examination. An overall score of at least 75 out of a possible 150 is required to pass. Papers are forwarded to PRINCE Australia for marking and issue of certificates to delegates who pass the exam. Delegates also receive a Certificate of Attendance.

When you register for the Practitioner Exam you will receive an Exam Kit with exam hints, past exam questions, an example solution and a trial exam. You should allow at least 3 hours to complete the trial exam and you should bring your answers to the Revision session.

The following advice may assist you to pass the Practitioner Examination:

  • Read the PRINCE2™ manual before and during the PRINCE2™ Project Management Methodology (Practitioner) three-day Course
  • Learn and use the correct PRINCE2™ terminology
  • Always think about the intent of each element of the methodology
  • If you can, gain some experience in the application of PRINCE2™ before taking the Practitioner Examination
  • Whether or not you have been able to gain PRINCE2™ experience, plan to do additional private study before taking the exam
  • Optionally use the Overview course (1 day) for further consolidation.

Course Objective

After the seminar, and with sufficient review, the participant should:

  • understand the concepts and structure of the PRINCE2™ Project Management Methodology
  • be equipped to participate in a PRINCE2™-managed project
  • for participants who have received prior in-depth PRINCE2™ training, be somewhat better equipped to sit the PRINCE2™ Practitioner Examination.

On registering, the participant receives a Practitioner Exam Study Pack that includes detailed exam guidance material, a sample exam and a copy of the Rational Management POTENT (Practitioner Objective Testing Exam Navigation Tool). They will also receive a spreadsheet attached to their registration email that allows them to submit their trial answers for marking as part of the preparation process. It is essential that participants have access to the manual "Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2™" during both the preparation and the exam.

1. Learning - In the period prior to the exam participants should read the exam guidance material and complete the official sample exam questions (utilising the POTENT tool) and email these to Rational Management for marking.

2. Practising - Participants will receive their marks on the trial questions, which will indicate which questions were not answered correctly. Participants are encouraged to refer back to the study materials to research their errors and re-submit their answers as this process provides the greatest retention of information and a high success rate in undertaking the exam. When the candidate has successfully researched and answered all questions correctly they should be ready to sit the examination.

3. The Exam (fee included) - is of three hours duration and is an open-book examination (only the PRINCE2™ Manual is allowed). The exam consists of nine questions and a short scenario plus some appendices that are relevant to specific questions. Each of the nine questions will be sub-divided into parts. Each of the nine questions is worth 40 marks giving a total possible of 360 marks. The pass mark is 180. No reading time is provided prior to the exam.
